ABOUT THE SPEAKER(S)
Marcelo Barbosa
President at CVM
Marcelo Barbosa is the chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Brazil (CVM), as well as the CVM representative on the IOSCO Board and the IOSCO Growth and Emerging Markets Committee. He has a seat on the Financial Stability Board and on the IFRS Monitoring Board and is a member of the Brazilian Technical Commission of Currency and Credit, of the Brazilian Market Regulators Committee, and of the Brazilian Committee of Financial Education. Cofounder of Vieira, Rezende, Barbosa, and Guerreiro Law Firm, Mr. Barbosa is a specialist on corporate law and securities markets and has been an adviser for private equity and mergers and acquisitions operations. He has also acted as arbitrator in numerous arbitral proceedings. Mr. Barbosa served as a professor of commercial and corporate law at Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro and of corporate law in the continuous education program of the Getulio Vargas Foundation at Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV). Mr. Barbosa currently teaches topics (case law) on corporate law and securities markets at FGV. He was a chair of the Board of Trustees of Fundação Estudar and a member of the Columbia Global Centers Latin America Consulting Council (Rio de Janeiro) and of the Mergers and Acquisitions Committee (CAF). Mr. Barbosa is also a councilor at Lemann Foundation. He has written several articles on corporate law and securities markets and has participated as a lecturer at conferences in Brazil and abroad. Mr. Barbosa has a bachelor’s degree in law from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) and an LL.M from Columbia University.
